One of Mid and East Antrim Borough’s most popular outdoor events is to celebrate a special milestone, its fifth anniversary, tomorrow Saturday 25 March.
Over the years, 238 parkruns have taken place in Ecos Park along the Braid River, through woodland and past meadows.
More than 3,500 runners have completed 26,500 runs of 5km – a total of 132,500 kilometres or 82,300 miles. Ecos parkrun is a free, timed walk or run which takes place every Saturday in Ecos Park. It is suitable for all ages and abilities and refreshments afterwards provide an opportunity to chat.
Saturday’s anniversary event will include a special visit by Jackie McWilliams, international hockey star and Olympic medal winner.
She is due to present awards to recognise those parkrunners who participated most regularly, with the final ‘Spirit of Ecos parkrun’ award being an extra special accolade.
The event is free and open to all and is taking place at Ecos, Kernohans Lane, Broughshane Road, Ballymena BT43 7QA, arriving for the 9.15am awards event and the run itself at 9.30am.
