Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has written to NIW to ask for an inspection of the WWTW in Mary Street Ballycastle after receiving numerous complaints about an odour coming from the plant.
Mr. McGuigan said:
“This has been an intermittent, but ongoing issue ever since the plant behind the Sheskburn was extended I recent years. The smell can be particularly potent depending on the strength and direction of the breeze.
“I have written to NIW about the issue and they have confirmed that they will investigate the potential source of the odour and have arranged for control samples to be taken from the Treatment works.
“Obviously I hope that this can be resolved swiftly and the current smells faced by local residents come to an end.”
