Motorist banned for ten years took to the road when his ‘driver’ was unavailable

BT Coleraine

A MAN previously banned from driving for ten years had a car for which he paid tax and insurance and another person drove him around but when the driver wasn’t available he got behind the wheel himself to go to an appointment.

Stephen O’Donavan (59), of Lansdowne Crescent in Portrush, was then detected driving whilst disqualified on June 11 this year at the New Bridge in Coleraine and was also uninsured.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court on October 21 defence barrister Alan Stewart said the defendant would have been eligible to apply to get his licence back early.

The defendant was given a four months jail term, suspended for two years and banned from the road for three years.
