SDLP East Derry MLA Gerry Mullan has condemned those behind the theft of a defibrillator from a Portstewart shop as senseless criminals.
This is the second time a defibrillator has been stolen from the shop.
Mr Mullan said:
“It’s difficult to imagine what could drive someone to steal a defibrillator. This is a life-saving piece of medical equipment that is absolutely no use to anyone who isn’t suffering from a heart attack. The senseless theft of this equipment is not only a callous crime but it has put lives in danger.
“This isn’t the first time this defibrillator has been stolen but thankfully it was returned after the last incident. I hope those behind the theft this time will also realise how dangerous their behaviour has been and that they’ll return the equipment immediately.
“I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward to the police as soon as possible.”
