Mullan Welcomes Commitment to Promote Game of Thrones Series

1 Mins read

Following a response received from the Minister of the Economy, SDLP East Derry MLA Gerry Mullan has welcomed plans to promote the new Game of Thrones season which will positively impact on the local tourism industry.

“The Game of Thrones series has been a major global hit and the local tourism industry which has benefited significantly from this success with £146 million going into the economy. It’s important that East Derry benefits locally from the series and continues to reap that benefit in the future.

“East Derry has played a big part and has provided a number of filming locations for the series, including the Dothraki sea at Binevenagh Mountain and the Dorne and the Reach at Portstewart strand. These iconic locations, and others across the North Coast, are quickly becoming regular tourist attractions for the many fans of the show visiting the North.

“I am therefore glad that the Minister and the Department of the Economy has plans to promote the new series throughout the constituency and across the North. Tourism plays a prominent role in the local economy and it’s important that all action necessary is taken to boost the number of visiters here.

“It’s now important that after the final season finishes, there is a longer term plan to promote the series to ensure the maximum number of tourists are visiting East Derry and continue to boost local businesses.
