A neighbourhood watch is to be set up in Coleraine in response to ongoing reports of vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the Anderson Park area of the town.
The acts of vandalism reported include the smashing of paving stones as well as metal cast bins being thrown into the brook.
Speaking to Causeway Coast Community, Councillor William McCandless said :
“I am making an appeal to parents, please check what your teenagers are up to, check where they are and who they are with and what time they are getting home at. Nobody wants to see them ending up with a criminal record.”
“The PSNI have been extremely patient in this matter but this wanton vandalism will have to stop.”
“The amount of time which the Park keeper and other staff are having to take for additional clean ups, the plants and timber for the trellises which have been destroyed, the plastic bins and drains which have been burned – they are all having to be paid for by the ratepayer.”
“The fire fighters turning out to put out unnecessary fires in the Park – more unnecessary expense and what would happen if a house fire occurred while they are tied up with this.”
