New Event Guides reveal packed programme of music, art, and comedy

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has launched its latest Events Guides for Flowerfield Arts Centre and Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre.

The guides feature a packed programme of events taking place from now until December.

Musical highlights at Flowerfield Arts Centre in Portstewart include the supremely talented Eleanor McEvoy who will grace the stage on Saturday 28th September while Andy Irvine will entertain musical audiences on Saturday 7th December with his traditional Irish folk tones.

Art exhibitions include the Friday Art Club, who host their first show on Saturday 7th September followed by the established Coleraine Arts Society Annual Exhibition which opens on Thursday 3rd October. Flowerfield Art Centre’s Artist in Residence Corrina Askin will host a series of talks, open studio days and workshops in the lead up to her exhibition in January.

Owen O’Neill will entertain with his master storytelling comedy show on Friday 18th October and the revered poet Frank Ormsby will read from his collection of new work ‘The Rain Barrel’ on Friday 25th October.

Children can look forward to a Cine Animate performance of ‘Ghost in the Shell’ on Saturday 5th October and ‘Your Name’ on Saturday 23rd November which will be followed by an animation workshop.

The annual Flowerfield Christmas Craft Market will make a welcome return from Saturday 23rd November featuring the best makers and artists from the local area.

Events at Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre in Limavady include ‘Derry Girls’ comedian extraordinaire, Kevin McAleer who will perform on Friday 20th September.

The Twilight Music Sessions at Roe Valley will offer a series of atmospheric gigs from local and international jazz, bluegrass, folk and Americana artists beginning with Eilidh Patterson on Saturday 5th October. Los Dramaticos will bring a Latin evening full of flamenco guitar, percussion, stories and tapas on Saturday 19th October. The Canadian band, Slocan Ramblers grace the stage on Thursday 24th October with their amazing take on bluegrass and acoustic delivery while folk band Pilgrim Street will round up the Twilight Sessions with their country tones on Saturday 9th November.

Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre will entertain younger audiences with the Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company show ‘The Box ‘on Saturday 12th October from 1.30pm. There will also be a host of Halloween activities including the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Tuesday 29th October, spooky stories with Liz Weir on Wednesday 30th October and the Dry Arch Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday 31st October.

Art exhibitions include Rong Gen Yins ‘A Brush with Nature’ which will continue until September 28th while curator Valeria Ceregini will open her environmental inspired show ‘Over Nature’ on Saturday 7th September.

There will be a mix of music and drama over Christmas with Limavady Drama Club performing its self-written panto ‘Foundered in Fairy land’ on Thursday 28th December.

Families can enjoy a screening of ‘The Grinch That Stole Christmas’ on Saturday 7th December and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ on Saturday 21st December. The Christmas buzz will continue with ‘A Christmas Country Cracker’ taking place on Friday 20th December and Abbamania on Friday 27th December. Plus we have The Fureys live in Limavady on Monday 30th for your New Year celebrations.

David Meade is also appearing at Roe Valley Arts Centre on January 31st with his brand new show ‘Catch Meade If You Can’
