East Londonderry DUP Assembly member George Robinson MBE has welcomed the provision of an additional fire hydrant close to the scene of last month’s fire at sheltered accommodation in Portstewart.
“I am delighted to have received confirmation from the Department of Infrastructure that, after consultation with NIW & the Fire Service, a new fire hydrant I requested after the recent fire at Agherton Grange in Portstewart is to be installed in the next few weeks. The decision has been made rapidly and is most welcome.
During the incident I was made aware that water had to brought from farther away than I expected. As a result, I made the request for the additional hydrant on safety grounds for the residents of Agherton Grange, the Sheltered Accommodation, local population and better water access for the fires crews. I believe this to be a benefit for the entire population locally and I welcome this very positive development” concluded Mr Robinson.
