NI Water seeking legal advice over Reservoir car park closure

1 Mins read

NI Water has told MLA Maurice Bradley that they will provide him with further information regarding the closure of the carpark at Ballinrees Reservoir within the next ten days.

The MLA contacted NI Water Chief Executive, Sara Vening following numerous calls from constituents when a notice in the area revealed that the car park would be closing from today (April 1).

On inspection this afternoon, the MLA found the car park remained open with no physical restrictions in place.

Bradley said: “I have received correspondence from Ms Venning advising that she is awaiting ‘more information from the relevant departments’, and that she would be in a position to ‘provide a full response’ in the coming days.

“The reservoir is well used by local people. It is a popular spot for dog walkers, runners and anglers. My fear is that the closure of this car park may mean that people could put themselves in danger by parking in other areas of this busy stretch of road in order to access the site.

“I appreciate that health and safety is paramount in a situation such as this, however, custom and practice would indicate that the onus is on NI Water to make the road safe given the fact that the area has been in their ownership for some time.

“I am hopeful that some resolution can be found in this matter.”
