Sinn Féin Westminster general election candidate for East Derry Dermot Nicholl attended An Lá Dearg in Belfast on Saturday.
Speaking on the day Cllr. Nicholl said “This was a vibrant and colourful event with thousands of people from all walks of life out to demand that politcial Unionism and the British government take them and their rights seriously.”
“The large turn out at the march shows the strength of support there is for an Irish Language Act. The large delegation of people from County Derry demonstrates the hard work that is being put into promoting the language in our county.”
“With representatives of different politcal parties and people young and old from across the country debunks the myth peddled by the DUP that there is only a small number of activists demanding an act. We want to see an end to the denial of equal rights to the wider Irish Language community.”
“The Irish Language is a rich part of our culture and it belongs to the whole community and Sinn Féin will continue to stand with those demanding equality and respect.” Crioch
