Between 6pm 11 July and 1am 12 July, NIFRS received 213 emergency calls and attended 133 operational incidents – a 49% increase during the same period in 2016.
In a statement this morning a spokesperson for NIFRS said “The evening was exceptionally busy and between 10pm – 1am we dealt with 95 operational incidents. At its busiest time our Regional Control Centre handled an emergency 999 call every minute.
During the evening we responded to 40 Bonfire related incidents – a 21% increase on 2016. We attended bonfire related incidents across NI with the 2 most significant bonfire incidents in the Greater Belfast area. Unfortunately there was 1 attack on a fire appliance leaving a bonfire incident in Belfast. Thankfully no Firefighters were injured.
We maintained our normal service delivery throughout the evening attending a range of operational incidents including property fires and other types of emergency incidents.
Thank you to our Regional Control Centre personnel, Firefighters and NIFRS staff who worked hard last night to provide our service to the public.
Thank you to the public for your continued support to NIFRS.
