Shortly after 0500hrs, Sunday 20th January NIFRS were called to a property in the Long Commons area of Coleraine, dispatching three appliances to the scene.
The Road has been closed by Police and motorists are advised to seek an alternative route around the town. A fire service cordon remained around the scene at 0600hrs and the condition of the occupants of the house are not yet known.
08.00 UPDATE : Speaking on behalf of NIFRS, John Bacon said “It was a lucky escape for the family, who are said to be shaken by the incident. Their saving grace on this occasion, I believe, is they closed the internal doors of the property before going to bed. This stopped the smoke from progressing through the building and allowed them to escape without the smoke closing off the escape route”
NIAS and PSNI also attended.
