The north coast’s very own up and coming acoustic alt-folk duo, Many a Son, have released their second EP, ‘The White,’ after a sold-out launch event in the Arcadia, Portrush on Saturday 9th March.

After the success of their first EP, ‘The Blue’, an EP with its roots in the north coast and all the stories of the sea, Many a Son have built on their foundations to create a unique ambient sound that reflects the passions and variety of the musical tastes of this talented duo.

Soon to be available on all major music platforms ‘The White,’ is inspired by majestic, bold mountains and invokes a sense of awe at their natural beauty. It explores the essence of wandering through them in intricate lyrics and vivid imagery with the music to match.

Having grown up together through school, Ross and Jordan now balance their respective day-to-day lives with their shared ventures in music; Ross, an avid traveller, is well on his way to becoming a doctor, whilst Jordan, a part-time shoe-salesman and theology graduate is exploring his sense of calling.

They trace their beginnings as a band to playing together on Castlerock beach at the end of their school years, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2017 that the pair decided they could make something of it and thus Many a Son came to be. Their private debut was held in Crusoe’s Cafe in Castlerock, a place very well known for hosting musicians from near and far.

This humble beginning has sparked many subsequent achievements, including two EP-releases within a year and 20 gigs to date at many notable locations such as the atmospheric Mussenden Temple, Atlantic Bar Portrush, and Pear Tree, Coleraine where they had their public debut.

Their works can be found in numerous local businesses including Culbertson’s Music in Coleraine, as well as Sea Shed Coffee at Benone and Bothy Whitepark Bay; both of which are places that have had them perform. ‘Lion’s Refuge’ from their debut EP was even featured on BBC Radio Ulster’s Across the Line and the EP has been streamed over 3500 times on Spotify, racking up over 12,000 minutes’ worth of play in 15 countries over the year since its release.

‘The White’, has amassed almost 400 plays on Bandcamp within its first week and upon release at The Arcadia, Many a Son sold out of their first run of CDs. The atmosphere of this new EP was captured at this packed-out gig and evokes feelings of wanderlust and awe at the landscapes and scenery that surround us. The pair are both hopeful and very much excited for whatever comes next for them and are so thankful for the local support of friends and family that have brought them this far.
