Older residents encouraged to stay active and ‘Move With Mary’

1 Mins read

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Age Friendly programme, in partnership with the Public Health Agency, is encouraging older people to get active with a new online exercise programme.

‘Move With Mary’, featuring sporting legend Lady Mary Peters working with Age NI, includes five exercise videos, ranging from simple seated stretches, to balance, strength and gentle aerobic exercises which can all be followed at home.

Health experts have warned of the dangers older people face from a lack of regular movement while UK research reveals that 40% are worried about the effects of the lockdown on their mental health and physical wellbeing.

You can watch all the videos now on Age NI’S YouTube page (www.youtube.com/user/agenitv) and a ‘Keeping Well at Home’ booklet has also been developed which compliments this online resource.

Further information and the ‘Keeping Well at Home’ booklet can be found on the Age UK website at https://www.ageuk.org.uk/northern-ireland/information-advice/coronavirus-covid-19/movewithmary/ or by emailing [email protected]causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk.
