Cllr Richard Holmes has welcomed news that Northern Ireland’s coastal route has been voted one of the best road trips on the planet by the GoCompare website.
“We have a stunning coastal route around Northern Ireland, from the Mournes in Newcastle, through the Norman castle of Carrickfergus to Derry’s Walls. But, call me biased, I believe the most stunning features are right here in the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
“From the stunning Glens of Antrim to seven miles of beaches at Magilligan; from the haunting history of Dunluce castle to Mussenden Temple as it watches the sea; from the dark volcanic stacks of the Giant’s Causeway to white froth of the waves lapping the golden sands.
“I’ve travelled the Pacific Coast Highway in California, the Garden Route in South Africa and England’s Atlantic Highway and what we have is very, very special. It is up to Tourism NI, working with the various councils, to ensure we fully utilise this gem in our tourism offer.”
