Orangemen were stoned in Coleraine last night whilst putting up flags ahead of Saturday’s Battle Of The Somme parade.
Whilst putting up Union and Ulster Flags in the Killowen Street area of the town, republicans threw stones and beer bottles at them.
No one was injured.
Speaking to Go Q Radio – Councillor Watton said the following :
Flags have been a matter of conflict in Killowen for many years. Both identities got locked into who was first to take theirs down. Surely there has to be a purpose for erecting them in the first place. Whilst the loyalist side used the 12th July and Somme for theirs; the continuous flying of the tricolour is more difficult to explain.
‘the continuous flying of the tricolour is more difficult to explain’ Probably as a response to all the loyalist terrorist flags flying in Coleraine that local politicians, especially Unionist politicians seem blind to.
