Noel Campbell (46) of Drumnadonagh Road, Larne has pleaded guilty at Ballymena Magistrates Court on 22 March 2017 to failing to meet the welfare needs of a dog that was in his care.

The charge was brought against Campbell by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council under the Welfare of Animals Act (NI) 2011.

It related to a West Highland Terrier that was suffering from a severe skin condition that had gone untreated.

Campbell was fined £200 and ordered to pay legal costs of £100. He was also ordered to pay an Offenders Levy of £15 and vets fees of £433.28.
Commenting on the case the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough , Council Audrey Wales MBE said: “Mid and East Antrim Borough Council gives a high priority to the welfare of domestic pets and horses and operates a rigorous enforcement policy to ensure full compliance of regulatory requirements.

“Complaints are investigated thoroughly and where necessary formal action is taken, which may include the service of Improvement Notices, or in extreme cases, seizure of animals.

“The Council may also prosecute for offences such as in this case which I hope serves as a warning to anyone who does not take appropriate care of animals,” Cllr Wales said.
