A man and three children got into difficulty on Castlerock Beach yesterday afternoon shortly after the RNLI Portrush Raft Race came to a close. They were using paddle boards when they got caught in a rip current for up to 15 minutes.
They managed to to get back onto land minutes before the coastguard and RNLI arrived.
The inshore lifeboat was launched and Coleraine Coastguard attended the incident. One person was treated by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
Speaking to Causeway Coast Community, Councillor McCandless said “A beautiful weekend for the raft race but the RNLI proved today at Castlerock just what they do best. While we all enjoyed the idyllic weather the RNLI were on constant alert. ”
