A 40-year-old man has been beaten with batons in a “paramilitary style attack” by three masked men in Ballymoney.

The incident happened at a house in the Alexandra Avenue area of the town around 8:30pm on Saturday.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries on his face, hand, legs and ribs. The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Constable Brennan said: “This was a savage attack and is another example of the way in which criminal groups seek to control communities through fear and violence.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or anyone who has information which may assist police enquiries, to contact Criminal Investigation Branch detectives in Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1425 28/10/17.

“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
