A DRUNK Limavady woman who shouted whilst at the Emergency Department at Coleraine’s Causeway Hospital causing some patients to become “very distressed” has been jailed for six months.

Michaela Connors (25), of William Street, was arrested in May last year in connection with another matter but because of her level of intoxication police took her to the hospital. However she began shouting and had to be moved to a private area, a prosecutor told Coleraine Magistrates Court on January 14.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the defendant, who appeared at the court via video link from Hydebank Prison, was aware that any offence in a hospital is viewed as serious. He said it was a case of “verbal disorderly behaviour”.

Mr Kyle said the mother-of-one was “a lady with no shortage of difficulties”. The court heard Connors was in custody on other matters.

She is charged with being disorderly at William Street in Limavady on December 28 last year and causing criminal damage to the front door of a man’s property on the same date.

Mr Kyle said the criminal damage charge will be denied. The defendant also faces charges of wounding a male with intent to do him grievous bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

Those two charges relate to September 9 last year. Relating to the same date, the defendant is charged with causing criminal damage to a property at Roeview Park in Limavady.

A prosecutor said the full file relating to the September 9 charges has now been allocated in their department.

Jailing Connors for six months after he activated a suspended sentence, District Judge Liam McNally said the defendant had been given “every chance” by the courts up until now.
