Play facilities in Portrush are at an all time low – UUP councillor Norman Hillis

“Play facilities in Portrush are at an all time low” says UUP councillor Norman Hillis.

“The recreation grounds play area is closed according to a notice due to vandalism. On investigation it seems that it is in fact a health and safety issue following an accident involving a child.

Whilst there may be significant costs in bringing the play area back into use it is to my mind a priority to bring this play area back to a usable state. Added to this the play area at Dunluce is also in a poor state of repair with equipment removed and areas fenced off. Residents could well say that Portrush has been forgotten when it comes to children’s play facilities.

Much is about to happen in Portrush over the next 18 months for which I am really grateful but the needs of residents and visitors children must be given urgent consideration and action. To this end I will be raising the whole issue of the lamentable lack of play provision in Portrush at the Council committee next week.”
