Police in Causeway Coast and Glens are encouraging residents to make this a Christmas to remember for all the right reasons.

Over the coming weeks the Police Service will be issuing advice and crime prevention tips to keep people safe in their homes, businesses, online, while out socialising and shopping as well as on the roads as part of ‘Operation Season’s Greetings’

Superintendent John Magill said: “We would like everyone to have a crime free Christmas, however criminals look at the festive season in a different light – as the opportune time to benefit from crime. As part of this year’s Operation Season’s Greetings, officers will take extra steps to deter and detect criminals exploiting the busy festive season for their own ends – with a special focus being placed on preventing burglaries, keeping party-goers safe and preventing road traffic collisions.

“In the run up to Christmas I would also like to remind everyone of the importance of being vigilant and using basic, common sense, preventative measures to protect your home, vehicle and valuables. I would also ask you to look out for one another, particularly the more vulnerable in your community. If you notice any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, or when out and about, please report it to us straight away. If possible make a note of details such as descriptions or vehicle registration numbers which will help us in any investigation or to build a detailed picture of criminal activity.

“Police have worked hard to keep communities safe throughout 2016 and we will continue to do this throughout the festive season. Don’t let criminals ruin your Christmas and help us to keep you safe.”
