A police spokesperson said last night “Police in Coleraine tonight carried out a joint enforcement operation with our colleagues in the DVA and Causeway Coast and Glens council.

This operation was in response to the ever increasing reports of reckless driving, illegally modified cars and general nuisance drivers. These type of drivers not only cause law abiding members of the public concern but are a clear danger to those of us who drive on the road. A number of vehicles were dealt with regarding speed and noise nuisances but there were more serious issues detected and a number of vehicles were issued prohibition notices due to serious safety defects – tyres, defective suspension, defective exhausts, no lights, sub standard brakes.

With our colleagues in DVA these vehicles were dealt with on the spot and matters will be taken forward from here. This will be the first of many such operations targeting problem areas, with the sole aim of making the roads safer for all of us.”
