Detectives have welcomed the sentencing of 34-year-old year Mark Bamber from Ahoghill for a number of offences for which he was arrested in 2015.

Mr Bamber was sentenced at Antrim Crown Court today, Thursday 21 March, to a total of three years’ imprisonment, to serve 18 months in custody and 18 months on probation for charges including conspiracy to possess class B drugs with intent to supply, blackmail and common assault.

Detective Inspector Thomas McClure of PSNI’s Organised Crime Unit said: “I very much welcome the sentence passed today in respect of Mark Bamber for his significant role in the supply of large quantities of controlled drugs in the Ballymena area.

“When Bamber discovered that a quantity of his drugs was allegedly missing from a property under his control, he made a number of demands with menaces for their return, implying that he represented the UDA.

“Our investigation strategy utilised a wide range of available legislation including the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 which led to this successful conviction against a dangerous criminal.”

A 25-year-old female and a 63-year- old male have previously been convicted for related offences.
