A man told a court a high-performance BMW, which police heard him “revving excessively” in Portrush, had similarities to a “Formula One car”.
Gavin David Fullerton (26), of Ballymacombs Lane, Bellaghy, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Friday and pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

A prosecutor said that on Sunday August 6 last year police noticed a BMW car revving excessively in Portrush before accelerating off.
Police were “concerned at the manner in which the vehicle was being driven” and the prosecutor said when spoken to the defendant “admitted his actions were excessive”.

At court on Friday the defendant was self-represented and said that at the time of the incident the car was “cold” and had a “high performance exhaust”.
He said such an exhaust is “very loud” and said aspects of the vehicle had the “same set-up as a Formula One car”.
The defendant said he had not driven very fast during the incident.
He was given three penalty points and fined £200.
