Detectives in Coleraine are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire at a flat in Parker Avenue, Portrush, in the early hours of Thursday 18th June.
The incident was reported to police at around 1.25am on Thursday morning. Officers attended the scene a short time later where NIFRS personnel had extinguished the fire in the first floor flat which was extensively smoke damaged as a result. An examination of the scene suggested the fire was started deliberately and the incident is therefore being treated as arson. No-one was present in the flat at the time of the incident but the lives of nearby neighbours were put at risk by the reckless actions of the person or persons responsible for starting the fire.
