Police must be satisfied with venues issued with prohibition notices before reopening

Northern Ireland publicans are hoping that it’s “third-time lucky” for the reopening of drink-only bars next Monday ( 21 September ) however those served with a prohibition notice must remain closed where they have been told to until police are satisfied that the establishment conforms with regulations.

As of last week, 35 prohibition notices on were issued to licensed premises in Northern Ireland for breaching coronavirus restrictions.

A prohibition notice requires a venue to stop the breach of the regulations identified by officers, and can mean closure until police are satisfied it can reopen safely.

A police spokesperson said “A prohibition notice served on licensed premises will remain in place until police are satisfied that the establishment conforms with the regulations and is safe to re-open.”
