POLICE saw a Lexus IS200, according to a prosecutor, “bouncing about more on the road than they would have expected,” and although no defects were noted during an inspection it emerged the driver was using the vehicle without insurance.

Gary Kelly (19), of Isle Road, Coleraine, pleaded guilty to the insurance offence in relation to Isle Road detected on April 4 this year, Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, was told on Monday.

The prosecutor said the defendant told police he was out in the vehicle for a “test drive” with a potential buyer as a passenger.

A defence solicitor confirmed the defendant had been trying to sell the vehicle.

The defendant, who had been in his driving probationary period at the time of the offence, was banned from getting behind the wheel for a month and fined £250.
