A police spokesperson said ‘ Police in Coleraine would like to remind the public that there is no routine access for vehicles in the pedestrian area of the town centre where permits are granted.
Sgt Phil Graham explains: “Access to the town centre in a vehicle is by permit only. The permit should be displayed on the dashboard/windscreen and should stipulate the days and times that access is allowed.
Vehicles without a permit can only be in the pedestrian area to load or unload heavy goods between 12pm and 1.30pm and 4pm and 5.30pm. Blue badge holders are not allowed to drive in the pedestrian zone unless they have a permit.
If you are detected driving in the pedestrian area without a permit you can expect a £30 fixed penalty ticket. We are doing as much as we can to educate people about who can drive their car or van in the pedestrian area but we do expect people to abide by the regulations.”
Further information about applying for permits can be found on the Department for Infrastructure website or on the NI Direct website.
