Police in Causeway Coast and Glens are becoming increasingly concerned about the number of reports of pit bikes, scramblers and ATV’s being used illegally on local roads and public places.
A police spokesperson said “In order to use one of these vehicles on a road or public place, the vehicle operator must have a valid driving licence for that class of vehicle and where applicable, compulsory basic braining.
“The min. age for any licence is 16 yrs. The vehicle also must be insured, taxed, have number plates and lights. A public place includes footpaths, forestry land, parks, playgrounds, housing estates including grass areas and beaches.
“If detected by Police or if witnesses provide information this may result in the vehicle being seized and criminal proceedings commenced.”
