In a social media post this morning a spokesperson for RNLI said “PARKING – We’re staggered to be posting this again. Between 1020 & 1100 this morning someone has removed the barrier and blocked in vital lifesaving equipment at Portrush East Strand. The rest of the car park is empty. The lifeguard service on the North Coast is now compromised because of these inconsiderate actions. If this is your car please come and move it ASAP.”
The post follows illegal parking throughout the week in Portrush.
Commenting on a growing trend of public parking in an area specifically reserved for RNLI personnel Alderman Norman Hillis UUP said that lives could be lost if RNLI crew members cannot get to emergency call outs because of opportunistic or careless parking in RNLI only zones at Portrush Harbour. I have spoken to senior officers at the Council and requested that action is taken.”
In a statement yesterday to Causeway Coast Community a council spokesperson said :
“A meeting will be organised with Council Officers and Portrush RNLI to discuss the problems they are experiencing and how we as a Council can deal with this.”
