Pregnant mum Sinead Stewart (27) dies in Ballycastle tragic incident

Sinead Stewart who has been named locally (27) from Whitepark Road, Ballycastle, and four months pregnant, died at the scene in Ballycastle, yesterday evening following a tragic incident.

The air ambulance was in attendance along with 2 fire appliances from Ballycastle, NIAS and PSNI. The cause of the death is not yet known.

Ballycastle Independent Councillor Padraig McShane said the local community was stunned and numb with grief.

“It would appear that a number of unfortunate factors have conspired to end this young lady’s life. The detail of the tragedy will be revealed in the fullness of time but at present, on behalf of the local community, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.”

Ballycastle Councillor Joan Baird OBE and Mayor of Causeway Coast & Glens has issued the following statement regarding this last nights incident :

“It is with deep sadness that I heard of the loss of this young woman’s life and that of her unborn child.

We never know what a day will bring and I want to express my deep sorrow to the family on their loss.

I would assure the family that the whole Community in Causeway Coast and Glens Borough are shocked and saddened by this tragedy.

I know that the Community will give all their support and love to the family in the difficult days that lie ahead.”

A police spokesperson said “Police attended the scene of a sudden death of a woman in her 20s in the Whitepark Road area of Ballycastle this evening, Tuesday 3 October. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
