‘Press’ing engagement for Bannsiders boss

1 Mins read

Oran Kearney has spoken to the press ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash with NK Maribor.

The Coleraine manager, along with captain Stephen O’Donnell, addressed the local media.

“The temperature is certainly different to what we are used to,” said Oran.

“We were delighted to get through a round to get here.

“Seven days on and it is a completely different task ahead of us.

“From research we know a lot of the history and standing of Maribor and their European achievements.

“We are very excited about the challenge ahead of us and want to give a good account of ourselves.”

Kearney believes his team enter the game better prepared than any previous European tie.

“We play winter football so normally we only have played a couple of friendlies by this stage.
“However, because of Covid 19, we have been back training for eight or nine weeks and played eight games.

“We are probably in the best shape we have ever been in for a European game and hopefully we can use that.

“In seven days things have flipped. We were favourites last week even though we weren’t seeded but we are ready to give this a go.”

Those views were echoed by skipper O’Donnell.

“As players it is excellent to be able to play in such a great stadium,” said Stephen.

“It’s a nice reward for all our hard work over the past nine to twelve months.

“As a group this is our third European game and we hope to use the previous experiences to cope with the pressure and intensity we will face.”
