A police spokesperson said “We’ve received reports of 2 suspicious vehicles in and around the North Coast area. The first is a Grey Ford Transit Van which we believe is being used province-wide to commit crime. This vehicle has been spotted in Magherafelt and now in the Ballymoney area. This van and its occupants are also cold calling at houses and may be saying that they’re selling tools. If you see this van ring 101 immediately so we can get it stopped!
The second is a blue van which has been cold calling at houses asking if they have any scrap metal. There were two persons in this van however, the passenger has been the one calling to people’s doors whilst the driver remains in the van. The passenger is described as approximately 5’6 in height and speaks with a local accent.
Understandably this can be distressing and worrying for residents when they notice an unfamiliar van or unfamiliar people lurking about or calling to their house. Please ensure all your property is locked up and secure and anything that you have of value with in reach of any member of public…ensure its safety stowed away!
DO NOT ANSWER YOUR DOOR TO STRANGERS!
If you have any concerns about your property or personal safety don’t hesitate to call us on 101 or if it’s an emergency 999.”
