A Public Adjudication hearing will be held at Cloonavin at 10am next Tuesday (15th November) into alleged breaches of the Councillor’s Code of Conduct by the Independent Ballycastle Councillor, Padraig McShane.

It is believed that the hearing will centre around an incident in which an Irish Tricolour and a Palestinian flag were displayed in the Council Chamber at Cloonavin during a visit by a representative of the Municipality of Gaza.

This action is alleged to have breached the following sections of the Code of Conduct:

  • 4.16 (a), You must not use, or attempt to use, your position improperly to confer on, or secure, an advantage for yourself of any other person.
  • 4.18 (b) You must not use, or authorise others to use, the resources of your council (b) in breach of your council’s requirements;
  • 4.18(e) You must not use, or attempt to use your position improperly for political purposes.
