Public toilets will remain closed across the Borough

Public toilets will remain closed across the Borough – that’s the message from Council following a number of queries from DUP representatives.

Maurice Bradley MLA and Cllr George Duddy say that they have had several calls from constituents in relation to facilities remaining closed across the Borough.

The advice from DAERA Minister Edwin Poots was that toilet facilities in forest areas were to remain closed, even though car parks were reopened this week.

In a joint statement the DUP members said: “This is a very difficult situation for those in our Council and in our Government Departments.

“Our beaches, parks and forests are now open for people to use for exercise, yet the toilet facilities remain closed.

“Guidance would dictate that facilities would need sanitised after every person and at this time this would not be possible.

“There would also be issues with social distancing so for the meantime, Council have decided to keep facilities closed.

“We would ask people to bear this in mind.
“It is a very difficult situation, but hopefully things will change as the R number reduces,” they said.
