Rathlin Coastguard Rescue Team & Portrush Lifeboat Tasked To Rathlin Island

At 2234 Belfast Coastguard received a call on VHF reporting a 90m cargo vessel aground on the North side of Rathlin Island. Belfast Coastguard tasked Rathlin Coastguard Rescue Team and requested Portrush RNLI lifeboat to launch. The vessel was able to refloat and is continuing on passage.

A spokesperson for Portrush lifeboat said “Portrush All weather Lifeboat launched last night at 10.45pm approx to reports of a 90 metre cargo vessel with 8 persons on board which ran aground at Rathlin Island.

The vessel was making its way from Scotland to Warrenpoint. The volunteer crew arrived on scene, but the vessel was able to get off rocks without assistance and continue its journey. The crew returned to station.”
