Re-opening of tourist businesses provides “hope” – Sugden

1 Mins read

EAST Londonderry MLA Claire Sugden has welcomed the re-opening of tourist accommodation along the north coast, saying it provided much-needed hope for the area’s tourist industry.

Caravan and campervan parks opened on Friday, along with self-catering tourist accommodation. Hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs will open from July 3, along with bars and restaurants.

“It is great to see these businesses being able to safely open their doors to holiday-makers,” said Ms Sugden. “It will provide the area’s economy with a much needed boost and bring hope that we can reclaim as much of the summer as possible.

“Businesses, like their customers, have had to get used to the ‘new normal’ of social distancing and health and safety measures, but they have been proactive with planning and, I have no doubt, will be equally thorough with its implementation.

“The area relies so heavily on tourism that it’s great to be able to say that the north coast is open for business.”
