The Red Bull Racing F1 Showrun made a welcome return to Belfast on Saturday 8 years since their last visit in 2010, drawing over 35,000+ motorsport fans to Belfast City Centre on a chilly November evening, letting them get up close and personal with the legendary Championship winning RB8 F1 Car, driven by F1 legend David Coulthard.
Coulthard was joined by an array of local motorsport talent including, motorcycle veterans Jeremy McWilliams and Ryan Farquhar, with Ryan making a welcome return to the back of the KMR Racing Supertwin Machine after his accident 2 years ago at the North West 200. Stunt bike rider Mattie Griffin from Galway and Professional Drifter 15 year old Conor Shanahan from Cork were also on hand to put on a memorable show for Irish Motorsport fans.
Speaking on the event afterwards, David Coulthard said.
“The reaction from the people of Belfast has been absolutely fantastic and I’m not just saying that in a ‘nice to be nice’ kind of way, The warmth of the fans has been amazing and the amount of people who have been coming over to say ‘thank you for coming to Belfast’, ‘thank you for bringing the F1 car here, so big thanks to Red Bull for making this opportunity possible. It’s not easy to get all the permissions.
“There’s no question the Irish love F1. There’s a huge motorsport tradition here – on two and four wheels, circuit racing, rally – so it was really special. I’m not sure if we wait another eight years I’ll be able to fit in my race suit, so we’d better come back again soon
