Speaking on behalf of his colleague Alderman Hillis this afternoon – Councillor McCandless advised that their party UUP had been approached by residents of the area who had been prevented from visiting their relatives graves when the Airwaves event was occurring due to the cemetery being used as a viewing point by spectators to the 2017 Airwaves air show.
This had been raised at the Leisure & Development committee earlier this month.
There unfortunately had also been an element of ASB reported and litter had also been left behind in the cemetery.
Council officers have been requested to put necessary controls in place to prevent a reoccurrence for the 2018 event.
A commitment to take action and preventative measures to be put in place has been given by the Director of Leisure & Development when they review the parking, traffic and transport plan for next year.
