Riverside Vandals Putting Lives At Risk – Trevor Clarke

BT Coleraine

Vandals are putting lives at risk in the Coleraine area.

Speaking to Causeway Coast Community this afternoon DUP Trevor Clarke said ” For at least the third time in as many months life-saving ‘throw bags’ have been vandalised at Christie Park.

Whoever is doing this must stop. The potential consequences are stark. Lives are needlessly being put at risk though these mindless acts of vandalism.

I will be speaking to local police with regard to this and urging actions to apprehend the culprits.

I would also appeal to the community to be vigilant and contact police if you have any information that migth help them with their enquiries.”

A spokesperson for Community Rescue Service said “Our work never ends even when not on duty, whilst driving along side the river bann in Coleraine I noticed a damaged throw bag lying along the rivers edge, not sure if it had been intentionally damaged or not but the bag has been completely ripped apart and the life saving rope pulled out.. this is a valuable peice of life saving equipment placed there for all the communities safety should the need arise…unfortunately this bag will need to be taken away and replaced.

Thankfully there are other throw bags in place along the rivers edge.”
