This year’s St Patrick’s Day Duck Dive in Portstewart was cancelled due to the activity representing tombstoning.

Speaking to Causeway Coast Community a spokesperson for RNLI said  ‘We would like to thank the Duck Dive organisers for cancelling this year’s event.

The Duck Dive committee submitted their event information for review and was receptive and understanding that this activity represents tombstoning.

Tombstoning involves jumping into the sea from a height and is an activity that the RNLI campaigns against due to the serious incidents it results in around our coast.

The RNLI therefore, could not support this activity and is grateful to the Duck Dive organisers for putting the safety of their event and those involved as their priority.’
