In a social media statement this evening local magician Rodd Hogg has announced to his fans that his Portrush stunt is cancelled this year due to ‘red tape’ which was due to take place on May 27th in the seaside resort.
The magician said in a social media statement ‘Red tape’ has won the day, after every possible avenue trying to find a way to allow my stunt to happen, was exhausted. I have invested, and sacrificed a huge part of my life to this. The past 8 months have been spent in constant consultation with stunt specialists from all over the world, designing a spectacle, that would have been one of the most spectacular this wee country would have ever seen. The past 7 months I have lived in the gym, training and preparing for a feat that ‘would’ have topped last year’s. I have turned down other opportunities and requests to do similar feats, for other authoritarian organisations further afield, out of loyalty to Portrush and the platform given last year.
When I perform, even something as simple as vanishing a coin, it’s always about the spectators. I always aim to give my audience the most unique and special experience possible. My whole being serves to give people something magical. On this occasion, it has been thwarted by the powers that be. For some this won’t matter much, but to the thousands of you who would have turned out to watch and support, I am sorry.”
Last year The Great Escape saw a massive 77K people watching the stunt on Causeway Coast Community after the event with 419 shares, 629 reactions and hundreds of comments.
Speaking after last years event, Rodd said ” “The highlight of the night for me was a picture of my son Max. He cried when the box was in the water.
He thought his dad had failed. But when the flares on the roof, lit up the sky behind him, he went crazy with excitement. His face shows pure joy and pride. His dad had not failed him. His dad would never fail him.”
In a social media statement Alan Simpson said “We are very sad an disappointed to announce that the much anticipated event ” Super Sunday ” has had to be cancelled.
The event which last year included one of the biggest fun dog shows in Ireland, the introduction of the Ramore food village and the World class Rodd Hogg magic spectacular had hoped this year to be even bigger and better with the aim to raise even more than last years estimated total of approximately £20,000 of much needed funds for our local Portrush Lifeboat.
Unfortunately due to insurmountable levels of red tape , bureaucracy and immovable barriers we have no other option but to cancel this years event . Our intention has always been to provide a fun , free and safe event for locals and visitors alike which helps to promote our town as a destination which delivers the highest standards of hospitality. Unfortunately we have been left with no other option than to cancel this years event .
We thank everyone who has been involved in the year long preparation and are sorry for the late notice of cancellation but we have exhausted every possible alternatives and options available to us but feel with a heavy heart that the 2018 event cannot continue as anticipated. We are so so sorry to everyone that was looking forward to what had promised to be one of the best FREE family days of the year in Portrush.
The world has gone mad”
