SDLP Causeway Coast and Glens Councillor, Helena Dallat O’Driscoll has said that the Minister for Communities’ decision to call a forensic audit into the Council is welcome but belated.

The Bann Councillor commented:

“In January of this year, our SDLP team wrote to the Department for Communities regarding serious concerns that we had about the management and financial viability of Causeway Coast and Glens Council. We received no substantive response from the Minister, despite numerous follow ups.”

“While we welcome the fact the Minister has eventually decided to act, it should have never been allowed to escalate to this situation. We need a forensic audit to restore public confidence in our Council and to ensure ratepayers money is being spent properly.”

“We will engage fully with the forensic audit and continue to press for good governance and transparency across Causeway Coast and Glens.”
