SDLP Causeway Coast and Glens councillor, Stephanie Quigley is cautiously optimistic that dangerous potholes at the Riverside Regional Centre in Coleraine can now finally be repaired. The stretch of road that is in serious disrepair links the Riverside Park South to Riverside Park North.
The Coleraine-based councillor said:
“I have been dealing with this issue for some time. The road is in an appalling state. People’s cars are being damaged as a result of the very deep potholes and others drivers are dangerously swerving in an effort to try to evade them. Also, as a keen cyclist I know just how dangerous these can be for other road users and there are very serious issues relating to the rights of wheelchair users and mothers with prams.
“I have tried my best to determine who has legal responsibility for the maintenance and care of the roadways affected and find it totally unacceptable that in this day and age this information is not readily available.
I am, however, cautiously optimistic that a resolution will be arrived at soon and this road can be adopted very soon.
“We want Coleraine to appear an attractive place to visit and to shop in. We need to project a positive and vibrant image, especially at places such as retail parks and leisure complexes. Likewise, the health and safety issues that arise from having such poor road conditions cannot be underestimated.”
