1 Mins read

A woman who slapped a paramedic and kicked out at an another ambulance worker before biting a police officer on the arm has been given a seven months jail sentence.
Louise Craig (19), of Mount Street Mews in Coleraine, was told by District Judge Liam McNally she had been given several chances by the courts but he had now lost patience with her.

Speaking at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday the judge said the defendant had assaulted members of the emergency services who had been trying to help her.
The defendant appeared at court via video link from Hydebank prison and admitted three charges of assaulting police and two of assaulting ambulance workers.

On another occasion, the defendant was caught attempting to steal cosmetics worth £36 from Boots in Coleraine.

When being restrained by a store detective she attempted to swallow drugs which she had in her possession.

Arising out that incident the defendant pleaded guilty to charges of attempted theft, resisting police and possession of drugs including cannabis.

The defendant had been released on bail for those offences but three days later she was caught with drugs and assaulted and resisted police.

The court was also told that on another date the defendant had assaulted a female in the Lisburn area.

Defence barrister Michael Smyth said Craig received a significant amount of money aged 18 which led to her being “preyed upon” by others who supplied her with drugs.

The defendant was granted bail for appeal and has to reside at an address approved by police.
