1 Mins read

A total of seven staff members have been suspended from duty at Magilligan Prison in the past five years.

This was revealed by Justice Minister Claire Sugden in response to a question from SDLP MLA Gerry Mullan who asked Minister Sugden to detail (i) the number of staff suspended from duty in Magilligan Prison in the last five years; (ii) the number reinstated in the same period; and (iii) the cost in wages, employer’s pension contributions and legal fees.

Responding to the question, Minister Sugden said : “The number of staff suspended from duty in Magilligan Prison in the last five years is seven; The number of staff reinstated in the same period is three; and the cost in wages is £133,651.17, employer’s pension contributions £26,971.64.

“Details of payments for legal fees in respect of suspended staff are not available, the action required to provide such would incur disproportionate costs.”
