A row at Council over the Mayor’s handling of a Special Meeting has prompted further criticism of the Borough’s first Sinn Fein Mayor.
Responding to a Sinn Fein statement regarding proceedings on Tuesday night’s events, Cllr Trevor Clarke said:
“There is nothing ‘laughable’ about having to leave the debating chamber to bring a wayward Chair to order. A vote was taken and the Mayor ignored the outcome. Such behaviour is anti-democratic and I and my colleagues will not stand by and allow such an abuse of office to go unchallenged.
Cllr Mulholland’s supposed concern about Council business being blocked for two days stands in stark contrast to his party’s actions in blocking government at Stormont for the last two years. The actions of his colleagues have created a democratic deficit and caused untold damage to public services and the lives of ordinary people across Northern Ireland.
There can be no disguising the utter hypocrisy in Cllr Mulholland’s comments.”
