A man has been arrested after “threatening and offensive comments” were made against Health Minister Robin Swann.
The comments about the minister were posted on social media on Friday.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a 26-year-old was arrested in Ballymena yesterday on suspicion of improper use of telecommunications causing anxiety and has subsequently been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
Mr. McGuigan said:
“I condemn any abuse and threats issued to Robin. Robin like all the Ministers in the Executive are currently working round the clock to try and save lives during this corona virus crisis. Neither he nor his family deserve to be subject to any kind of sectarian abuse.
“I want to express my solidarity to Robin and his family and hope that any and all such abuse ceases immediately.”
