Sinn Féin North Antrim MLA Philip McGuigan said that North Antrim Ian Paisley Jnr must resign immediately after it was found that he had failed to declare two family holidays paid for by the Sri Lankan government and then wrote to the British Prime Minister in 2014 to lobby against supporting a UN resolution on Sri Lanka.

Philip McGuigan said:

“Ian Paisley needs to step down immediately. If he is not prepared to do the right thing then the DUP must demand his resignation.

“People need to trust that their politicians will exercise their duties with integrity and that public office will not be abused. This report has clearly exposed wrongdoing on the part of Ian Paisley in a way that is incompatible with his role as an MP.

“If tMr. Paisley doesn’t resign then the North Antrim electorate will undoubtedly force a by election. The North Antrim electorate deserves better.
